Big Lake Fishing on a Large Inland Lake

Get ready for non-stop action on one of Michigan’s most beautiful inland lakes—Crystal Lake! Known for its gin-clear water and diverse fishery, this lake is home to jumbo Rock Bass, hard-fighting smallmouth bass, lake trout, Steelhead, Coho, and even the occasional trophy pike. Captain Dan Stewart brings the same big-water intensity and know-how to this laid-back, family-friendly fishery. Whether you’re looking to fill a cooler or just want to get the kids hooked on fishing, Crystal Lake delivers fun, fish, and unforgettable memories in a postcard-perfect setting.

Our Trips

Worm Dunking Fishing Trip - Great for Kids

Rock Bass, Bass, Northern Pike, Perch, What ever is biting
Great for parents who just want to get their kids out fishing but don’t want to take them out on the Great Lakes just yet. Techniques are as simple as possible to make an enjoyable fishing experience for the kiddos and anyone else. Let me do the work so you can enjoy the time with your kids. This is available in June, July and September. 4 and 5 hour trips are available in the morning and afternoon. 3 Hour trips for the kids are 12 PM and 4 PM.

​Fish cleaning available for $2 a fish.


Crystal Lake Salmon and Steelhead Trips


Did you know that Crystal Lake has a thriving Trout and Salmon population? Although much smaller than their Great Lakes cousin, they still are a lot of fun for the person that doesn't want to go on Lake Michigan. The Rainbow Trout and Salmon are 2 -8 lbs while the Lake Trout are a little bigger.  Trips are 6 hours and leave at 6 AM and 3 PM.

​All trips require a $100 deposit to reserve your day on the lake with us. If the trip is canceled due to bad weather we’ll either reschedule a new date, or refund your deposit.

The Season

Fishing on Crystal Lake in Benzie County, Michigan, offers a dynamic experience throughout the year, catering to anglers of all skill levels. As the state’s ninth-largest inland lake, spanning approximately 9,854 acres with depths reaching up to 165 feet , Crystal Lake provides diverse fishing opportunities across seasons. 


🐟 Spring (April–May)

Spring marks the beginning of the fishing season on Crystal Lake. Anglers often find success targeting lake trout and rainbow trout during this period. Fishing from the beach using spawn is a popular technique, especially near tributaries like Cold Creek . 


☀️ Summer (June–August)

Summer is prime time for trolling on Crystal Lake. Anglers employ Great Lakes techniques, including downriggers, divers, and leadcore lines, to target lake trout. Lures such as spoons, plugs, and cowbells are commonly used . The lake’s clear waters and diverse habitats also make it ideal for pursuing smallmouth bass and perch. 


🍂 Fall (September–October)

Fall offers excellent shore fishing opportunities, particularly for coho salmon, rainbow trout, and lake trout. Anglers often fish off the beach using spawn or cast spoons to entice these species as they prepare for spawning runs . 


❄️ Winter (December–March)

Winter transforms Crystal Lake into a hub for ice fishing enthusiasts. Lake trout are typically caught through the ice by jigging with spoons or using tip-ups baited with smelt or shiners. Rainbow trout are often targeted near creek mouths using spawn or minnows . 


🎣 Fishing Regulations

Crystal Lake is designated as a Type E trout lake. According to the 2025 Michigan Fishing Regulations, the possession season for Type E lakes runs from April 26 to October 31 . Anglers should consult the current Michigan Fishing Guide for specific regulations and any updates.
