Fishing Platte Bay is a one-of-a-kind experience on the crystal-clear waters of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Each summer and early fall, massive schools of Coho, Lake Trout, and even the occasional King Salmon cruise the bay in shallow, gin-clear water. Captain Dan Stewart puts you right in the heart of the action, targeting aggressive fish with light tackle and unique techniques. It’s visual, hands-on fishing at its finest—perfect for anglers who love a challenge and want a front-row seat to one of Michigan’s most scenic and productive fisheries.
If you want to troll for these fish, let Captain Dan know.

Platte Bay is a breathtaking stretch of Lake Michigan located within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in northwestern Michigan. Nestled at the mouth of the Platte River, this bay is known for its stunning turquoise waters, sugar-sand beaches, and panoramic views of the surrounding dunes and wooded bluffs. It’s a haven for anglers, paddlers, swimmers, and photographers alike.
Every summer and fall, Platte Bay becomes a hotspot for salmon as they stage in the bay before running up the river to spawn. The shallow, clear waters make it a unique place to sight-fish for big King and Coho salmon. Beyond the fishing, it’s a peaceful, scenic destination where Michigan’s wild beauty is on full display.
June through early August the bay is full of hungry Trout.
In early August we start targeting these silver bullets jigging in the depths of the Bay. As summer nears fall, we start to cast to them as they break surface all around us. Depending on the lake, we eventually switch over to casting for them at the mouth of the river.
If jigging is not your thing, we will be happy to troll for them for you, just let Captain Dan know.
Please be on time so we can get up to the Bay early to give you the best opportunity at filling the cooler. Trips leave at 5 AM and 4 Pm, unless Captain Dan says otherwise.
